Web Based Applications

A web based applications is hosted on a web server and avaialble via a web browser. A web based application is generally secured by login / password and often use of secure certificates (SSL) technology.

The advantages to web based based applications include the following:-

Availability. They are universally available, 24/7, to anyone with internet access, regardless of the hardware specification of a PC, and there is no need for software to be pre-installed.

Development. During the development process, software is perpetually available for review and feedback.

Support. Support is infinately easier, as problems can be easily replicated and fixes only need to be applied to one host platform.

Common Interface. Web based software is hardware and operating system independant. Once it works as a web application it will function in the same way on any PC.
